Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 20, 2026

Canopy Check ("we", "us") provides a preliminary tree screening service. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Important: The screening provided by the Service is preliminary only and is not a substitute for an in-person assessment by a certified arborist.

1. Information We Collect

When you use the Service, we collect:

  • Account information: your full name, phone number, email address, and an encrypted password.
  • Tree photos: the images you upload, along with file metadata such as type and size. Photos may contain incidental background details (such as houses, vehicles, or people); please avoid uploading images you do not want to share.
  • Screening results: the categories, concern levels, and notes produced by our screening process for each photo.
  • Technical data: basic logs (such as request times and error reports) needed to operate the Service securely.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and authenticate your account.
  • To run a preliminary visual screening on the photos you upload.
  • To notify our partnered tree-service company so a certified arborist can follow up with you about your trees.
  • To respond to your questions and to operate, secure, and improve the Service.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

3. Who We Share It With

We share your information only as needed to run the Service:

  • Our partnered tree-service company / certified arborists, so they can review your screening and contact you.
  • Service providers who host our database and storage, send transactional email, and provide our AI vision model. These providers process data on our behalf under appropriate confidentiality terms.
  • Legal and safety recipients when required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect rights, property, or safety.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Storage and Security

Photos are stored in a private storage bucket, and database access is restricted by row-level security so that you can only see your own uploads. We use industry- standard safeguards, but no system is perfectly secure; you use the Service at your own risk.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information and screening history for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service and meet our legal obligations. You may request deletion of your account and associated photos at any time (see "Your Choices" below).

6. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights — including deleting your account and uploaded photos — contact us using the details in section 9.

You can also opt out of further follow-up contact from the partnered tree-service company by replying to any message they send you.

7. Children

The Service is intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and significant changes will be communicated through the Service.

9. Contact Us
